About Me

Hi! I’m Laura Hauser — the home cook, snack-packer, and everyday recipe maker behind Recipes for Life. Most of this site is built right from my family kitchen, usually in moments squeezed between school drop-off, grocery bags still on the counter, and that daily “What’s for dinner?” question that never seems to take a day off.

I never expected food to become such a central part of my life. I actually spent several years in early childhood education, and the part of the job I loved most was always the hands-on, nurturing moments: packing classroom snacks, helping kids try new foods, and chatting with other moms about what we were all making at home.

But the real shift happened when my oldest started kindergarten. I still remember the first crazy school week — late pickups, forgotten lunch boxes, a stovetop full of half-finished ideas. That week I wrote down the three dinners my kids actually ate without complaining. Those scribbled notes became the start of a little binder I carried everywhere. Over time, as more notes piled up, that binder quietly grew into what eventually became this website.

I learned to stretch ingredients during the years when our grocery budget felt impossibly tight. I learned to chop vegetables one-handed while holding a teething toddler on my hip. I learned to assemble make-ahead meals in the car before evening practice because that was the only free half hour in the day.

One of my most vivid memories is burning a whole pan of chicken because I was trying to answer homework questions at the same time — the smoke alarm went off, my kids thought it was hilarious, and I realized right then that my recipes had to become simpler, not fancier.

Over time I became the unofficial recipe person among my friends — the one people texted for “a quick dessert for tonight” or “something the kids will actually eat.” Every time someone asked, I added another recipe to the binder.

Starting Recipes for Life

Recipes for Life began during a season when I desperately needed easier mornings and calmer evenings. I shared a few simple recipes online, mostly so I wouldn’t forget them, and people began asking for more. That was the moment I realized there were so many families just like mine — busy, tired, doing their best, and looking for meals that actually work.

So I committed to building a space where home cooks could find dependable, straightforward dishes without endless scrolling, complicated techniques, or ingredients you only use once.

My Promise to You

Every recipe is made and tested in my own kitchen using the same tools most families have.
I rewrite instructions until they’re clear, adjust ingredients until they make sense, and update posts whenever I find a better method. If a recipe feels impractical, stressful, or wasteful — it simply doesn’t make it onto the site.

My hope is that this space feels like chatting with a friend who understands busy days, picky eaters, and the relief of a meal that finally turns out right.

Thank You for Being Here

Whether you’re learning to cook, rebuilding confidence in the kitchen, or simply hunting for new ideas, I’m grateful you’re here. I hope Recipes for Life makes your days a little easier and your table a little cozier.

You’re always welcome in my kitchen.
